By June, the Korean military detachment in Pawing responded to our request to level the ground to prepare for construction.  Sr. Edith Tan explained to them the needed work to be done.  Later, the beneficiaries from Bachao put up a temporary fence along property line using cocolumber from the lot.

Meanwhile, community organizing continues with Sr. Merna Virtucio. The Vision and Mission of the Sitio Bachao residents were formulated by six groups which was later on consolidated into one through many group processes. Everyone was overjoyed to come out with a united Vision-Mission and Goal for the first year. The groups underwent activities to enable them to memorize and internalize their Vision and Mission. They have printed it in a tarpaulin and displayed it in Sitio Bachao. Another will be placed in the site in Bgy Castilla.

Side by side with formation activities is the work on the site coordinated by Sr. Edith.

The interior roads to the main road have been laid out. A well to draw water for construction purposes has been dug; a mixer has been procured as well as materials for construction. She is also is busy following up all the permits from the offices in charge of zoning, electrical installations, etc. She even attended a seminar of the Electricity provider. There are many requirements from the DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) due to the nature of our housing project which is classified as Subdivision. The officers were kind but the process is taking time. Because of this, Sr. Edith has asked the government Engineering office if they can start pouring the cement and oral permit was granted.

Sr. Merna has started to give Catechism and Leadership training to all. They target the end of September for the election of their officers, a step towards their legal recognition and for the signing of a final MOA or Memorandum of Agreement, as well as have their own authoritative group to help in the building of the community and of the structures.

Our prayers for you dear Sisters and people of Sitio Bachao, as well as our material support for all those who do the “sweat equity”, through the proceeds of each community’s fasting for Climate Change on the 1st of each month.
