Canossians Join PCNE 2: “Blessed are you…”

A fitting preparation for the pastoral visit of Pope Francis was the holding of PCNE 2 last January 15-17 at UST Q-Pavilion.  Canossian Sisters with their mission partners from different communities in Luzon and Mindanao participated in this event together with more than 5000 participants around the country and some from our Asian neighbors.   The theme “Blessed are you…” explored the relationship between the Beatitudes and Evangelization focusing on the blessedness that Jesus offers to His Church, His evangelizers to the Philippines, to Asia and to the whole of humanity.  Heart to Heart talk with the Cardinal on Day 1 revolved on the Portrait of Blessedness from invited guests who shared their experiences of overcoming trials in life through faith. Pathways to Blessedness through the Beatitudes was the reflection shared by Sr. Niceta Vargas, OSA on Day 2.  She offered  the listeners five pathways to blessedness:  being poor in spirit, having mercy, purity of heart, being peacemakers and endurance in persecution for justice’s sake.  Programs of Blessedness  were presented on Day 3 by Bishop Pablo David who shared on the challenges of Evangelii Gadium and by Cardinal Quevedo,  OMI who shared  his experiences in being Church of the Poor in his archdiocese in Cotabato.  The Conference concluded with a Send-off of the participants through a candle lighting ceremony after the Eucharistic Celebration by Bishop Pablo David.

During the 3-day conference, there were sharing of resource persons from various faith communities on their experiences of the beatitudes during difficult moments of their lives – the Yolanda victims, PWD’s IP’s, Zamboanga siege victims, sheltered  street children, victims of human trafficking and others and abducted children.    One of our Canossian participants shared, “I was so amazed with the story of Ms. Edith Burgos who’s  son is still missing, I was so inspired by her attitude of looking at the abductors of her missing son as “CHILDREN OF GOD” also.  This conference challenges us to live out the spirit of the Beatitudes in the ordinary or difficult situations in our lives to spread the Kingdom of God.
