Canonical Opening of the Community of Palo

July 1, 2017
2:20 p.m.
Canossa Ville, Barangay Castilla
Palo, Leyte

After three years of relocation, reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in Barangay Castilla for the former residents of Sitio Bachao, Barangay Pawing, Palo, Leyte, who were victims of super typhoon Yolanda, Archbishop John Du, D.D., of Palo, Leyte, officially invited the Sisters to work permanently in the Archdiocese.  Their work will consist of the continuation of the development efforts of the residents of Canossa Ville and the supervision of catechetical instruction in the Archdiocese.

After careful discernment, the Provincial Team, with the consent of the General Council in Rome, agreed to accept the Archbishop’s invitation and as a first community, Sr. Leonor Dijan was appointed Community Leader with Sr. Marie Maureen Cejas continuing the development work at Canossa Ville and Sr. Nancy Edusma as the new Archdiocesan Catechetical Coordinator.

The official or canonical opening was held on July 1, 2017 in the presence of the Provincial Leader, Sr. Gliceria Manuyag and Provincial Councillor, Sr. Lina Amante, the residents of Canossa Ville.

Among the guests were: the Captain of Barangay Castilla, the Officers of the Barangay Chapel, and Members of the Family and Life Ministry of the Cathedral.

Four priests who concelebrated with the Archbishop were: Fr. Kelvin Apurillo, Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Fr. Irwin Gavilo, Chaplain of Canossa Ville, Fr. Norman S. Abolencia, Archdiocesan Director of Catechetics, and Fr. Alfie Edward Protesta, Secretary of the Archbishop. Canossian Sisters from other communities were: Srs.
