Canossa Academy of Lipa City

Canossa Academy of Lipa City is one of the four schools owned and administered by the Canossian Sisters in the Philippines. Its foundation was also a response to the request of  Archbishop Alejandro Olalia to continue the running of the Our Lady of the Rosary Academy (OLRA) from  the Maryknoll  Sisters. It was formally opened in June  1967 in the old site near San Sebastian Cathedral.  In the same year, construction of a new building began in a new site in Brgy. San Carlos in a three-hectare land donated by Atty. Dionisio Lingao.  The school was transferred in this site in 1969.  Part of the new building was used as Canossian Novitiate until 1972 when the Novitatiate was transferred to Paco, Manila.  In 1973, OLRA was renamed Canossa Academy.  To respond to the Canossian mission of sharing God’s love to the most in need, the St. Magdalene of Canossa Community Center was established in 1995.  One of its projects is  to reach out to children and youth from poor families through scholarship grants from elementary to Senior High School.   The Center has adopted some disadvantaged communities in nearby barangays of San Carlos,  Mataas na Lupa and Sico.  Outreach programs in these communities have brought about a strong social orientation among the students.  Since 1998, both Grade School and High School departments underwent the PAASCU Accreditation.  Both have achieved Level II accreditation.  To date, Grade School Department has been awarded Level III status, the first in Batangas.  In response to the K-12 curriculum of DepEd, it opened the Senior High School department in 2016.

A more laudable development  is in terms of aligning the school’s curriculum with the values of the school’s mission statement.  Canossian graduates should possess the following attributes:  Sharer of God’s Love, Man and Woman of Faith,  Academically Competent Learner, Responsible Agent  of Social Transformation and True Brother and Sister to the Poor (SMART).  While Canossa Academy aims for the integral human development of its students, the school hopes that its students and alumni turn out to be indeed  S.M.A.R.T.  Canossians with the Heart as the whole educative community strive to live its motto – We Form Hearts.
